« Death is far too heavy for the one who dies too well known to others but unknown to themselves. »
This sentence by Seneca is the starting point of Memento Mori. The work questions our contemporary condition in the face of digital saturation, focusing especially on two alienating dynamics: compulsive doomscrolling and the permanent injunction to seek social validation through the "like".
In this piece, digital abundance is translated through a dense background made of an interlacing of signs in ASCII art. This monochrome, cold visual chaos contrasts with the central figure: a skull with glitch-like, saturated accents, surmounted by the notification icon. By representing the user as their own influencer, the work points to the tragedy of the dopamine-seeking quest and the risk of an evanescent existence in which the gaze of others gradually obscures self-awareness.
Memento Mori originates from a search for creating a personal and modern memento mori.
The piece plays with the superposition of layers, blending retro-computing aesthetics and contemporary iconography to materialize the superficiality of our digital interactions. Through this materialization, it offers a reflective pause in the uninterrupted flow of our screens.
